Bitstamp said in October 2023 that it would discontinue services to Canadian customers from 8 January 2024. The exchange had already stopped opening new Canadian accounts in March 2023.
What changed
- Services ended on 8 January 2024. Canadian customers could no longer use Bitstamp from that date.
- Accounts moved to Bitbuy. On 26 April 2024 WonderFi said its subsidiary Bitbuy had acquired Bitstamp’s Canadian client accounts, more than 110,000 retail and institutional accounts, through a business transfer agreement.

Canada is restricted for Bitstamp at high confidence. The row records that no new accounts have been opened since March 2023 and that remaining accounts moved to Bitbuy in 2024.
