How the tools work
The tools read the same verified dataset that drives every country and platform page: 2,693 restriction rows for 22 platforms across 209 countries and territories, citing 344 distinct sources. A tool is a faster way to query that data, not a separate source of it, so every status a tool shows also sits on a crawlable page with its sources and the date it was last verified.
The global restriction explorer puts the whole matrix on one screen. Pick one of the 22 platforms to shade the world map by its status in each country, or narrow the country table by category (DeFi, exchange and prediction market), by any of 6 regions or by status. With no platform selected, each country shows its overall status, derived from every platform tracked there.
The checker on the homepage works the other way round: choose a country and every tracked platform appears with its status there, then pick one to see the reason and the source behind it.
Every status is available, limited, restricted or unknown. Platform documents decide it first, then regulator publications, then our own geo-access test, which opens each platform from an IP address in the country; a pair nobody has researched yet stays unknown rather than guessed. The methodology page sets out the full source hierarchy and confidence levels.
