About CryptoRestrictions

An independent research publication that tracks where crypto exchanges, DeFi protocols and prediction markets can be used, and why.

What we do

Whether a crypto platform works in a given country is surprisingly hard to find out. The answer is scattered across terms of service, help-centre articles, licence registers and regulator notices, and it changes often. We read those documents and turn them into one consistent record: a status for each platform in each country, the reason behind it and the source it came from.

The dataset currently holds 2,693 verified records covering 22 platforms across 209 countries, drawn from 2,078 registered sources. Every page on the site is generated from it.

How we work

  • Primary sources first. A status rests on the platform's own terms or an official regulator publication. News reports are leads, not evidence.
  • Every record is dated and graded. Each one shows when it was last verified and how confident we are in it.
  • Unknown stays unknown. Where we cannot confirm something, we say so rather than guess.
  • People approve every change. Software helps us notice when a source changes. It never publishes a factual claim on its own.

The full process, including how statuses are defined, is in the methodology. The complete list of documents we rely on is in the source register.

Who writes it

CryptoRestrictions is produced by a small independent team. Research and articles are published under the name of the desk responsible, the Research Desk or Editorial Review, and not under individual names. We ask to be judged on what can be checked: every claim links to its source, so you never have to take our word for it.

Independence and funding

We are not owned by, affiliated with or paid by any exchange, protocol, prediction market or regulator. Platforms cannot pay to be listed or to change a status, and the site carries no advertising. We do not currently earn commission from links to platforms. If we introduce any commercial arrangement, it will be disclosed on the disclaimer page and labelled wherever it applies.

Corrections

Rules change quickly and we will sometimes be behind or wrong. If you spot an error, email contact@cryptorestrictions.com with the page address and a source we can check. We review every report, correct confirmed errors and update the verification date on the record. Platforms and regulators are welcome to send clarifications in the same way.

Contact

For corrections, press and data-licensing questions, or anything about privacy: contact@cryptorestrictions.com. We cannot give advice on individual accounts, and we are unable to help recover funds or unlock accounts held with any platform.
